Mexico prepares 21st Meeting of Foreign Ministers

Mexico, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) Mexico on Wednesday held a meeting of coordinators of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (ECLAC), to prepare the meeting of foreign ministers on July 24 and prior to the summit of heads of State.

In a press release, authorities indicated that issues on the agenda of the foreign ministers’ meeting were discussed, as well as those to be debated at the 6th Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in person on September 18, also in Mexico City.

Mexico is the pro tempore president of ECLAC; therefore the country convened and coordinated the meeting on Wednesday with the participation of the entire active membership, according to the press release.

Also present were international representatives from the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, the African Union, the European Union and the Europe Latin America Foundation, who highlighted the initiatives and cooperation actions carried out with ECLAC.

The meeting was chaired by Efrain Guadarrama, Mexico’s national coordinator to the regional group, and Helietta Gonzalez, deputy national coordinator, as representatives of the pro tempore presidency.

ECLAC is an intergovernmental mechanism for dialogue and political coordination. Its membership includes all 33 Latin America and Caribbean countries, and it was created with the commitment to advance the region’s gradual integration process.
