President and CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping presented the medal to the awardees during a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
This is the first time that the medal, with red, gold and white as its main colors, has been awarded. It adopts key elements such as the Party emblem and the five-pointed star.
Xi said that the awardees embody the integrity and devotion of the Chinese communists and represent the Party’s traditions of hard work and simple living.
China is celebrating this week the 100 years of the founding of its Communist Party, an anniversary that will be honored with activities across the territory and central events in Beijing.
On Thursday, Tiananmen Square will be the scene of a parade and Beijing’s most central avenues have large-scale flower arrangements inspired in the history and achievements of the country under the leadership of that Party.
