Among marksmen with greater chances for medals after their performances in the world circuit are Saurahb Chaudhury, Manu Bhaker and Abhishek Verma with pistol, as well as Divyansh Singh Panwar, Anjum Moudgil and Aishwary Tomar, with rifles.
Chaudbury and Bhaker, both 19 years old, are current World Olympic Youth champions from Buenos Aires 2018 in compressed air pistol at 10 meters, in masculine and feminine categories respectively.
Badminton player Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Ravi Dahiya, boxers Mary Kom and Amit Panghal and in javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra also have chances too to climb one of the podium’s positions.
But with Punia’s recent injury last week and Chopra’s inadaquate training conditions, things will turn more difficult to the south Asian country in the summer games in the Japanese capital.
Chopra, last India’s hope to get a medal in track and field, got the world’s third best record in javelin throw during the season with 88.07 meters.
