Russia supports Armenia in mediation about Nagorno-Karabakh

Moscow, June 24 (Prensa Latina) Russian president Vladimir Putin confirmed today in a telephone conversation with acting Armenian prime minister, Nicol Pashinian, the role of his country as a mediator to guarantee the stability in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

‘The parts involved dealt with the Nagorno-Karabakh topic, and underlined the importance of a consistent implementation of agreements achieved by Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan leaders on November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021’, according to the official note.

The Russian president congratulated Pashinian over the victory of his party Civic Agreement in the recent anticipated parliamentary polls with 53.92 percent of the votes, and wished him success in the formation of the new government.

Elections in Armenia took place last Sunday to ease the tensions between the acting prime minister and the opposition, blaming him of giving in to Azerbaijan as the end to last year’s war escalation.

Past January 11, Putin, his Azeri counterpart and Pashynian created a three-party group to solve hanging issues on the conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

After a more than three-hour meeting in Moscow, the presidents agree to the application of paragraph 9 of a joint declaration from last November to put an end to combats between Armenia and Azerbaijan about the mountainous region.

The text refers to the unblocking of all economic and transportation exchanges in Nagorno-Karabakh, as the Russian president had proposed, he also established as priorities the support to the reestablishment of communications by train and road.
