In his speech at the voting session to the resolution submitted by Cuba at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, the diplomat reaffirmed his country’s support to the ‘Cuban brothers’ and the United Nations resolution against the unjust blockade that ignores human rights.
Syria continuously voted in favor of the Cuban resolution and that result is an important message to ask that the blockade is lifted because it is a policy of oppression aggravated by the unilateral sanctions, he said.
The Syrian delegate expressed his opposition to Cuba’s designation as a country defending and sponsoring terrorism while addressing the suffering of the people as a consequence of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Washington.
He also recognized Cuba’s willingness to collaborate and provide assistance to other countries in the fight against Covid-19 as it is the victim of an economic terrorism similar to terrorism in other countries that affects its people.
On Wednesday, 184 UN State members voted in favor of lifting the US blockade against Cuba, only the United States and Israel voted against, while Ukraine, Colombia and Brazil abstained.
