In an interview with international analyst Rosalba Lo Bue Antico on the parliamentary television channel ANTV, Llorenti ratified the founding principles of the integration mechanism, based on an anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist stance.
The official referred to the ALBA-TCP’s achievements and challenges since its establishment in 2004 at the initiative of the revolutionary leaders Fidel Castro (1926-2016) and Hugo Chavez (1954-2013).
In that regard, he recalled that the integration bloc was founded as neoliberalism was trying to take over Latin America through the Free Trade Area for the Americas, promoted by the United States with the aim of subordinating the countries of the region economically.
Llorenti assured that the ALBA-TCP remains united and is taking firm steps, despite the serious difficulties generated by the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States on Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
Regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, he pointed out that this health catastrophe categorically demonstrated the failure of the neoliberal model, and brought out the fragility of the national economies, health systems and the need for joint work to meet the challenge.
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty will hold its 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government on June 24, at which participants will ratify the integrationist will in the face of global challenges and threats against the peoples of the region.
