The UNESCO provided elements on the consequences of the blockade in the report prepared by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, in advance of a new vote to take place tomorrow in the General Assembly on a draft resolution calling to halt the blockade.
According to UNESCO, the blockade has a negative effect on Cuba’s implementation of important transformations aimed at improving its education system, including the modernization of the curriculum and actions to increase the efficiency and quality of the teaching process.
Some of the companies UNESCO has had agreements with for a long time cannot make offers to Cuba.
Since 1992, the United Nations General Assembly has adopted by a wide margin the resolution that demands the lifting of the blockade and asks the Secretary General to prepare a report on the fulfillment of this demand.
The Covid-19 pandemic prevented last year the presentation by Cuba of the twenty-ninth draft on the need to end the blockade, so tomorrow the UN General Assembly will debate the initiative for the first time since the arrival to the White House of Joe Biden, who has maintained the 243 measures of his predecessor, Donald Trump, in order to intensify the blockade.
