Angola ratifies efforts for stability in the African region

Luanda, Jun 19 (Prensa Latina) Angola ratified during this week its commitment to stability in the Great Lakes region and specific efforts to achieve peace in the Central African Republic (CAR).

The issue was addressed on Friday during a meeting between Foreign Minister Téte António and the president of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, as reported to the press in Luanda by the Ministry of Exterior Relations.

According to the source, the Angolan minister explained to the representative of the AU the initiatives undertaken by President João Lourenço in his capacity as president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).

For his part, Faki Mahamat reiterated his support for the Angolan government with a view to resolving various conflicts in the region.

In April of this year, the ICGLR held a mini-summit of Heads of State and Government in Luanda urging the international community, in particular the United Nations, to join the regional efforts to support the reactivation of the Political Agreement of Peace and Reconciliation in the CAR.

The forum stressed the importance of ending the impunity in the country and called for justice against the perpetrators of violations of international humanitarian law and human rights.

Likewise, it recommended that the CAR authorities strengthen the work of the Truth, Justice, Reparation and Reconciliation Commission and urged the armed groups not to take actions that would endanger the ceasefire.
