Venezuela’s elections move forward with peak of registered voters

Caracas, Jun 19 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela's National Electoral Council invited the European Union and the UN to send observers to the November elections, while the number of registered voters today amounts to over 160,000.

The rector of the electoral body, Roberto Picon, has unfolded this week that those organizations were summoned to participate in the regional and municipal elections to be held next November 21.

‘We are waiting for the definitive answers and their willingness to participate,’ he pointed out.

Likewise, Picon underscored that the five main rectors of the CNE agree on those elections must be developed with a wide participation of citizens, political actors and a greater international recognition.

He informed that a modification of the National and International Observation Regulations is currently being studied, ‘we are assessing different proposals in order to get as close as possible to the capacities that the missions had in 2005 and 2006.’

Meanwhile, over 160,500 new voters registered their data during the registration and updating of the electoral registry, which since June 1st the CNE has been active in the 23 states and the Capital District, and will continue until July 15.

According to the latest update, issued to the legislative elections of December 6, 2020, more than 21,70,000 citizens make up the electoral roll.

At the same time of the special electoral registration day, the CNE has activated this week the audit of the automated voting system, as part of the electoral chronogram.

Venezuelans will go to the polls in November to elect 23 governors and 335 mayors/mayoresses, 251 state legislators and 2,459 councilors.
