Venezuelan president praises Ernesto Guevara’s legacy

Caracas, Jun 14 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Monday praised Ernesto Guevara's revolutionary and internationalist legacy, on his 93rd birth date in the Argentine city of Rosario.

‘We celebrate your life because you are still here, walking among the fighting youth, filling with your infinite humanity the lives of the doctors who are fighting for life and as a beacon for us who dream with a new humanity. Let us be like Che!,’ the president tweeted.

For his part, Sacha Llorenti, executive secretary at the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), recalled the Heroic Guerrilla Man when quoting some verses from Cuba’s National Poet Nicolas Guillen.

‘Firm is the voice that orders without commanding, which commands as a comrade, orders as a friend, the tender and strong voice of a comrade chief. We see you everyday as a minister, every day as a soldier, every day as a common and difficult person (…),’ Llorenti wrote on Twitter.

Trained as a physician and with a vocation of revolutionary fighter, military strategist, statesman, writer and economist, Ernesto Guevara played a critical role in the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on Jan.1, 1959, and in the subsequent construction of the socialist State.

Universally known as El Che, his remains were found in 1997 and sent to Cuba, where they rest at the Memorial named after him in the city of Santa Clara, in central Cuba.
