Despite the defeat, Silva managed to gather 320 points, which put him among those at the top of the world ranking, with a possibility to ascend to the podium at the Tokyo Olympics.

Brazilian Rafael Macedo had similar luck: defeated Korean Kyujoon Mun and German Eduard Trippel, but fell to Mongolian Altanbagana Gantulga.

Colombian Francisco Balanta, Panamanian Jose Luis Ortega, and Peruvian Yuta Galarreta also lost.

On the Women’s 70 kg, on the other hand, Brazilian Maria Portela was defeated at quarter finals by Japanese Yoko Ono, who won a Bronze Medal in Baku 2018 and will dispute the finals.

Venezuelan Elvismar Rodriguez and Puerto Rican Maria Perez were eliminated even earlier, in eighth finals.
