Elections ratify MORENA as first political party in Mexico

Mexico, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) The ruling party MORENA won the Sunday midterm elections and is ratified as the first political party in Mexico, according to preliminary data released at the stroke of midnight on Monday.

However, the results, at least in the regions, were below expectations and everything indicates that the qualified majority in the Lower House is getting out of hand.

According to Leonardo Cordova, Councilor President of the National Electoral Institute (INE), citizen participation was lower than expected, from 51.7 to 52 percent of 93.5 million registered voters.

In the Chamber of Deputies, from 500 seats, MORENA got from 190 to 203, the National Action Party from 106 to 117, the Institutional Revolutionary Party 63 to 75, the Green Party of Mexico 43 to 48, the Labor Party 35 to 41, the Citizen Movement 20 to 27, the Solidarity Encounter Party from 0 to 6 and the others were left out.

The states where governors will change are Baja California, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chihuahua, Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, Nayarit, Nuevo Leon, Queretaro, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosi, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas, but the INE did not give those results.

Although MORENA is ratified as the first party in Mexico and with a simple majority in the Chamber of Deputies, apparently not even with its alliance with the Labor and Green groups, it achieves the required seats to maintain the qualified superiority it had till now.
