Specifically for Covax, a program of the World Health Organization (WHO) for a much more equitable vaccine distribution, the United States will allocate 19 million doses, in addition to six million doses to Latin America and the Caribbean, seven million to Asia and five million to Africa.
Moreover, around six million doses will be sent directly to Mexico, Canada and South Korea, and to the UN frontline workers as well.
The batches will contain Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, the only ones authorized so far in the United States.
The decision came amid growing domestic and international pressure on President Joe Biden to provide more assistance to other nations and thus prevent the spread of new strains of the coronavirus.
WHO said that the United States and other high-income nations account for nearly 90 percent of Covid-19 vaccines.
