According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), those six Asian nations repeated their commitment to arriving in Tokyo with their delegations immunized, because they are on the list of countries and regions subject to the strictest restrictions on entry in Japan.
The six NOCs expressed to the IOC and the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee to conduct additional testing of their delegation members prior to departure in order to contribute to a safe Olympics for all participants and the Japanese people amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
In that regard, the Olympic associations of Bangladesh and India expressed their support in every possible way for the celebration of the multi-sport event, scheduled from July 23 to August 8.
Last week, IOC President Thomas Bach confirmed that up to 75 percent of the residents of the Olympic Village are already immunized or have secured vaccination against Covid-19.
In that regard, the world Olympic body announced on May 6 the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Pfizer-BioNTech to donate doses of the vaccines to the participants of the Games.
In addition, the IOC received an offer from China’s Olympic Committee, host of the Beijing 2022 winter event, to contribute to the immunization process; and Panam Sports offered another boost with the program of 6,000 vaccines to qualified athletes and accredited officials from the Americas.
