Phase III of the Sovereign 02 clinical trial kicked off last March, with a vaccination schedule of 1, 28 and 56 days. Abdala’s trials began subsequently, with a period spanning just half of that cycle.

Ileana Morales, director of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Public Health, detailed on radio and television that 172,233 citizens received the doses provided as part of this modality.

As per her explanation, 330,726 workers from the healthcare system and the biopharmaceutical industry were vaccinated during the intervention studies, as another step in the immunization strategy.

A health intervention in territories and risk groups in the municipalities of Regla, Habana del Este, Guanabacoa and San Miguel del Padron, in Havana, was added to these processes since May 12th, with 612,376 people having already received the first dose.

Morales considered this research process of verification of the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine candidates as a complex health operation, to which end 1,117 sites were enabled.
