Japan’s GDP shrinks

Tokyo, May 19 (Prensa Latina) Official statistics show that Japan's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) shrank 1.3 percent in the first three months of 2021, compared to the fourth trimester of last year.

In the comparison with the first three months of 2020, Japan’s GDP decreased 1.9 percent.

In the first trimester of this year, the trimestral decrease of Japan’s economy was 1.4 percent of household consumption, compared to a 2.2-percent expansion in the three previous months.

Meanwhile, government consumption from January to March dropped 1.8 percent, in contrast to a 1.8-percent increase in the three previous months.
