In the weekend mega-elections, (from the right) 48 independents, 37 members of Vamos por Chile; (from the Left) 28 of Dignity Approve; (from Center-Left parties) 25 of I Approve; and 17 of the native peoples, were elected to be members of the Constituent Convention.
According to the provisions of the legislation, as of Monday the Election Qualifying Tribunal (TRICEL) has 30 days to assess the election and proclaim the elected constituents, which must be informed to the President of the Republic and the National Congress.
The establishment of the Convention must be conducted no later than the first fortnight of July and from there one the sessions for the drafting of the new Constitution will begin.
After the weekend elections, analysts and politicians warned that the Constitutional Convention will have the most expeditious path towards the implementation of substantial changes for Chile in response to the demands of most of the population.
