‘I want to talk to you about Covid-19 vaccination, which is one of the country´s key missions. That´s why we are conducting an accelerated and massive plan to vaccinate at least 3.5 million people this year,’ Alvarado wrote and published on social media.

The president specified the project includes direct action by the State and support by private sector and civil society organizations.

To immunize 70% of the population this year, the Costa Rican president mentioned 10 points for accelerated and massive vaccination.

He recalled that the private sector has been authorized since the end of last April to import vaccines approved by strict regulatory agencies and that Costa Rica has been negotiating since the end of March with the United States, the European Union and China.

After saying that from December 24, when immunization began, the technical team belonging to the Costa Rican Social Security Fund applied 384,355 doses.

He also stated that more than a million people should have received the two doses by the end of June, and from July to September they would add one more million people to complete vaccination schedule.

He assured that an accelerated and massive vaccination is key to fighting the pandemic and its impact on health, economy and employment.
