This Saturday is the last registration day in the capital offices of the Ministry of the Interior which until Friday received the application forms of 300 would-be candidate to run for the presidential post. Iran’s elections are slated for June 18.

According to the Constitution, the Guardian Council is in charge of presenting the final list, which is expected to be known by the end of this month.

Among the most prominent candidates registered so far are former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Feridun Abbasi, and former Deputy Interior Minister Mostafa Tayzadeh.

Also the former commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Rostam Qasemi, Hosein Dehqan and Said Mohamad.

Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif has refused to present his candidacy, despite his popularity.

Once the nomination is complete, the Guardian Council will choose the candidates who must meet four conditions: be over 40 and under 75 years of old and Muslim, have a university degree and leading experience, and have no criminal record.
