The new shipment, carried by the state airline Boliviana de Aviación (BOA), adds to the one received on Friday by President Luis Arce at the Viru Viru airport, in the eastern department of Santa Cruz, where he reiterated his government’s commitment to accelerate national immunization.
‘In six months we are making adequate progress and we are doing it to fulfill our promise during the October 2020 elections, because the best the Executive can do is to take care of the life and health of Bolivians,’ said the president.
On Tuesday, May 11, 334,400 doses of the Chinese immunizer Sinopharm arrived at the Cochabamba airport, with the second batch on Friday from the same manufacturer. A fourth is expected on Sunday with 331,200 additional doses.
The Bolivian administration is carrying out a massive vaccination plan against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the cause of the pandemic, after injecting mainly health personnel in the first line of confrontation with the disease.
So far, official reports show that 1,093,963 people have been vaccinated with the first and second doses of Sputnik V, the Anglo-Swedish company AstraZeneca, Sinopharm or Pfizer-BioNTech (United States-Germany).
