Before leaving New York for Moscow, the UN chief referred to the possibility of a virtual meeting with the Russian president during his stay in Moscow until May 14.
Russia’s Deputy Ambassador to UN Dmitry Polyanskiy also warned the press that Guterres would have ‘a very intense diplomatic and cultural program’ in Moscow.
On Wednesday, the UN secretary-general and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held official talks in which the main current global conflicts were reviewed.
According to both diplomats, the intensification of the confrontations between Israel and Palestine was the theme of the talks.
About the issue, Russian foreign minister stressed that ‘the best solution to all problems’ consists in organizing negotiations on the solid basis of the United Nations Charter and the central role of UN coordination.
