Mega elections will be held in this country on Saturday and Sunday, when the 155 members of the convention that will draft the new Constitution, as well as regional governors, mayors and councilmen and women, will be elected.
The police will be deployed in all 2,502 polling stations across the country where 14,900,189 citizens will cast their votes, the largest electoral register in Chile’s history, according to data from the Electoral Service (SERVEL).
General Raul Agurto, chief of the Private Security Area, Weapons Control and Explosives, told emol.cl that a general staff was created that has been operational since November and guaranteed safety in SERVEL tasks.
The senior officer added that besides those troops, there will be supporting aircraft, helicopters and drones to guarantee security and calm during the two election days.
He explained that ‘in order to held and guide people’ during the elections, three security perimeters will be set up around the polling stations.
