Cuba boosts e-sales on internal trade sector

Havana, May 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is today boosting e-sales in internal trade by using platforms such as EnZona and Transfermóvil, as part of government-prioritized electronic process, according to specialized sources.

Speaking on the TV program Mesa Redonda, Mirian Pérez, vice minister of Internal Trade, said that the ministry has been working on implementing the sector’s computerization policy since two years ago, with special interest in e-trade and e-government.

Concerning e-government, the ministry became utterly absorbed in two key projects: one related to computerization of consumer records and the other one to commercial registration process that will allow anyone who does a commercial activity to conduct their proceedings virtually.

She recalled that the installation of point-of-sale (POS) terminals at construction materials stores and banking system in the wholesale market started in 2019.

The objective, she said, was to generalize such an experience to reduce the use of cash, for which it was made a joint work with Xetid Company – goal-oriented to software, automation and communication – in order to use QR Code, in addition to setting up brand-new e-stores.

Mirian Pérez highlighted that retail sales through e-commerce have exceeded $130 million CUP after implementing POS, QR Code and e-stores.

Pérez valued this experience as positive, because ‘there is greater control since all operations are recorded, cash handling is avoided and non-payment chains are reduced. Accounts receivable and payable from 2019 to 2020 decreased by about $500 million CUP.’
