The decision is in line with the information given by the Secretary of Foreign Relations Marcelo Ebrard to the Mexican press in a teleconference from Moscow, when he said that this is one of the agreements he reached with the Russian Fund for Direct Investment.
In a couple of days, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) will begin the registration of the new Russian single-dose vaccine, in order to speed up Mexico´s national vaccination program.
It will be up to Mexican health authorities to pin down whether the agreements to keep the purchase of the 24 million doses already agreed for the Sputnik V vaccine are renegotiated, but it seems that it will go to Sputnik Light.
Marcelo Ebrard said that during talks, directors of the Russian Investment Fund, the National Center for Epidemiology Research Gamaleya and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov agreed to speed up the process so that the Sputnik V Light vaccine begins to be packaged in Mexico in coming weeks.
