Biden plans first meeting with GOP, Democratic leaders in May

Washington, Apr 29 (Prensa Latina) President Joe Biden is scheduled to host his first bipartisan meeting with Senate and House leaders, Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy, respectively, on May 12, a White House official confirmed to Axios on Wednesday.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that Biden ‘is eager to talk in-person’ about partnering ‘on the goals of restoring trust in government and ensuring that government delivers for the US people.’

The invitation is intended to give the president a chance to meet with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to discuss common policy goals.

On Wednesday, in a conversation with TV anchors, Joe Biden referred to difficulties in working with GOPs, especially as a result of republican changes generated by the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021).

Everyone wonders, can I do something that is bipartisan? And the thing is, I have to find out if there is a party to negotiate with, Biden said, according to CNN’s Jake Tapper.
