The magnitude of forced movements in the country is considered among the largest one globally, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi assessed, quoted by the local radio station.
Grandi enters this Friday the fourth and last day of a working mission to the DRC, which will include the city of Goma, the media report highlighted.
Compared to his previous visit in 2018, the official appreciated improvements in the humanitarian situation in south central Kasai region; but conditions still need to be stabilized for many people who returned after the extreme violence occurred there in recent years, Radio Okapi stated.
According to the source, the UN official also reviewed the projects for the care of the Central African refugees in the Yakoma region (north), and met in Kinshasa with top government authorities, to discuss, among other things, the question of forced movements.
Regarding the DRC, Grandi stressed the complexity of migratory movements, when the figure of internally displaced people exceeds five million, there are around 940,000 Congolese refugees in other countries and about 500,000 inhabitants from neighboring nations with similar status remain in this nation.
