At least 26 people died for consuming adulterated beverages

Santo Domingo, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) At least 26 people have died in the Dominican Republic until Friday after consuming adulterated alcoholic beverages despite authorities' warnings and bans.

In the face of the situation, the Public Ministry has taken actions to dismantle underground manufacture and sale networks of this type of beverage.

Several people were arrested and some of the equipment used to manufacture this lethal product was confiscated.

In addition, the National Observatory for Consumer Protection called on the Ministry of Public Health to confiscate and remove from the market a beverage identified as Monday’s, which was in the market without health registration or the required information, and was mixed with adulterated alcohol.

Monday’s was massively sold in Easter, even to children and teenagers. It is a sort of icy drink with fruit, but mixed with alcohol adulterated with methanol, which is commonly sold in the country during holidays.
