Russia Reaffirms Cooperation with Iran, Despite US Position
Moscow, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov has reaffirmed today his country''s decision to maintain the cooperation with Iran, including the fight against terrorism and the search for a solution to the Syrian conflict.
Commenting on the position of the United States President, Donald Trump, when he accused Tehran of sponsoring terrorism, Riabkov considered that Washington's foreign policy is not fully aware of many international issues.
We know very little about the content and positions in specific aspects of the U.S. foreign policy, where only the first steps are being taken, including the case of Iran, the Russian deputy minister told Prensa Latina.
We consider that Iran is a safe and stable partner, a close neighbor and that country's friendly relations with Russia do not depend on external conditions, he said.
We now cooperate with Tehran in many aspects of the international arena and in different forums, including our dialogue on anti-terrorism, something we are going to maintain, he pointed out.
The two countries will also continue work in an effort to seek a joint position aimed at implementing a peaceful solution to the conflict in Syria, said the Russian diplomat.
