Increased Number of US Visitors to Cuba
11 de enero de 2017, 14:33Havana, Jan 11 (Prensa Latina) U.S. arrivals to Cuba grew by 74 percent from 2015 to 2016, with an additional 284,937 visitors last year, according to a senior Foreign Ministry official.
The head of the United States Department of Foreign Affairs, Josefina Fidal, released the figures in a brief Twitter in both Spanish and English.
'In 2016, 284,937 US citizens visited Cuba, a growth of 74 percent compared to 2015,' the diplomat stated on the social network.
The numbers are significant due to the restrictions of the economic, financial and commercial blockade the United States government has imposed against Cuba for more than half a century.
No USA citizen can come as a tourist to Cuba because of Washington's prohibitions; travel to the island is limited to 12 categories, approved in 2016 by the administration of President Barack Obama.
