Almost 800 Persons Were Detained Due to Illegal Narcotics in Panama
11 de enero de 2017, 13:32Panama, Jan 11 (Prensa Latina) Panamenian authorities seized more than 63 tons of drugs and detained 797 persons related to illegal narcotics during 2016, official sources informed today.
A report published by the Public Ministry (PM) of the Central American nation informed that 89 percent of the seized merchandise last year was cocaine,with a total of 56.13 tons and that 75.75 percent of the detainees were from Panama.
The rest of the seized drugs in 2016 were almost 7 tons of marihuana, while 195 of the detainees were foreigners, although the source did not specify their nationalities.
According to the minister of Public Security, Alexis Bethancourt, until last December 13 panamanian authorities had seized a record of 62.3 tons of drugs.
In 2015 panamanian authorities captured 58.1 tons of drugs, and a total of 524.3 tons were seized between 2000 and 2016, according to figures released by the Public Ministry.
