UN: More than 620,000 Afghans Displaced in 2016
Kabul, Jan 11 (Prensa Latina) Violence in Afghanistan forced 623,000 people to leave their respective homes in 2016, said a report of the United Nations published by news agency Khaama Press Tuesday.
The number of displaced people went over the expectations of the UN experts, who were calculating there would be 250,000 displaced people for 2016.
Only in the last three weeks, 40,000 displaced people were registered, of which more than 50 percent are children.
The crisis got aggravated with the return of a million people deported from Iran and Pakistan in the last months. The presence of these, constitutes a challenge for the government of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and the agencies in charge of receiving the contributions.
A report by the UN Humanitarian Needs Office said that for 2017, 9.3 million people will be depending on foreign help, increasing 13 percent, compared to 2015.
The biggest problems for the refugees who returned and internal displaced people, are the lack of economic resources, home and food for the winter.
