Thousands of People Attend Funeral of Former Iranian President
10 de enero de 2017, 15:41Tehran, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) Thousands of people attended today the funeral of former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hasheni Rafsanjani, a key figure in the founding of this country.
The news of Ayatollah RafsanjaniÂ´s death at 82 shocked Iranians from all social groups, who went to the funeral with posters such as 'Good-bye, comrade.'
Rafsanjani, former president and strategist, was involved since he was young in public life during the management of the Sha, and stood out as an activist so he was imprisoned for many years, suffering torture and exile.
Following the success of the Iranian Revolution in 1979, which overthrew the Pahvlevi monarchy, and the return to the country of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Iran's supreme historical leader, Rafsanjani became an important figure very close to Khomeini, playing a key role in the management of this country.
Rafsanjani led the country from 1989 to 1997, working on the reconstruction of Iran after the war with Iraq (1980-1988).
At the time of his death, Rafsanjani led the Council on Discernment to advise Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and to handle issues of the Parliament and the Council of Guardians of the Revolution.
