Gasolinazo will Decrease Purchasing Power, Says Mexican Expert
09 de enero de 2017, 18:02Mexico, Jan 9 (Prensa Latina) The purchasing power of Mexican families will decrease in 2017, after predictions of a 17.7-percent in crease of the basic products, due to the so-called gasolinazo, an expert asserted today, in reference to the hike in fuel prices in this country.
That was a statement by coordinator of the laboratories for Analysis on Trade, Economy and Business of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Ignacio Martinez, who added that there is a domino effect , because the prices of gas oil are increasing and also those of transportation.
A 28.57-percent increase in the charges at tollbooths and those for electric power adds to the situation above, he said.
He explained that increases in the prices of onion, tomato, (corn) tortilla, sugar, avocado, eggs and apple, among other products, had been recorded in January.
The increase in the price of gas oil came into force in January 1, causing protests here by unions, countryside workers, parties, students, teachers and civil organizations.
