Russia Denounces Provocation to Sabotage FIFA World Cup

Media in the United Kingdom, which could never forgive Russia for its clean victory to host the FIFA World Cup over London, are the most active players in the calls to boycott the international competition, the press release added.
Those provocations only make relations between Moscow and London more difficult and, at the same time, are a harsh blow to the international sports movement, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
On Monday, the deputy chairman of the Russian Senate's International Relations Committee, Vladimir Dzhabarov, noted that British intelligence might have attempted against Skripal as a provocation to blame Russia later.
Dzhabarov, who is also a general with the Federal Security Bureau (FSB), pointed out that the alleged poisoning of the former member of the General Directorate of Intelligence (GRU, in Russian), might also have been perpetrated by a third country with the same objective.
That accusation against Russia is nonsense, said Dzhabarov, when commenting statements by British Prime Minister Theresa May.
How is it possible that Russia handed over Skripal to the United Kingdom when he stopped being a person of interest for its intelligence and attempted against him later?, the senator wondered, in allusion to the pardon granted at the time by President Vladimir Putin to the former GRU official.
Since the beginning of the incident, the culprit could only have one name; that is, Russia, noted the FSB general, who stated that it is a provocation made shortly before the presidential elections on March 18.
The action against Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, aims to create conditions to make the Russian people dissatisfied with the government, but those objectives lack success and prospects, the lawmaker stressed.

Russia Denounces Provocation to Sabotage FIFA World Cup
Moscow, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) The provocation by western countries, based on the alleged poisoning of a former Russian official and the accusation against Moscow for that action, aims to sabotage the FIFA World Cup in this country, the Foreign Ministry denounced today.
The British government made the accusation against Russia for its alleged implication in Sergei Skripal's case, as a provocation and an effort to start a media campaign to discredit this country as the host of the FIFA World Cup, the Foreign Ministry said in a communiqué.
