El Salvador, Germany Sign Twinning of Natural Parks

This collaboration between El Salvador and Germany had its antecedents last February when a scientific mission supported the fight against the plague of the 'pine bark weevil' that damaged forests in this country.
Such technical assistance was a commitment of Leibl with a Salvadoran visit to the national park 'Bayerischer Wald' in 2016, to know the German experience in the management of the pine forests affected by the weevil.
That group of experts was composed of entomologists, specialists in hydrology and geo-ecology, forestry economics and environmental conservation, and trained technical personnel from the affected areas.
On this occasion, Leibl and his delegation toured the highland forests in the vicinity of El Pital, the highest mountain in El Salvador, and had meetings with coffee farmers in the region.
In addition, they spotted buffer zones, protected forests, and La Guira lagoon complex, before reaching Montecristo, which belongs to the Trifiño Biosphere Reserve, near the border with Guatemala and Honduras.
