Belgium Urges to Comply with Peace Agreement in South Sudan
17 de julio de 2016, 11:42Brussels, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) The Belgian government expressed alarm due to the escalating conflict in South Sudan and called on the warring parties to comply with the peace agreement reached between their leaders in August 2015.
In a statement signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Didier Reynders, and Minister of Development Cooperation, Alexander De Croo, they called on the South Sudan government and the rebels to end urgently the hostilities, which have been aggravated due to the intense fighting in Juba.
According to the Ministers, Belgium follows closely the situation in the African country, and consults with other countries and organizations. Belgium condemns the attacks against civilians and the United Nations staff.
Reynders and De Croo expressed concern about the deteriorating situation in South Sudan and its consequences for the population, and added that about half of the population already depends on humanitarian and international aid.
