Cuba Calls at UN to Stop Israeli Abuses against Palestines
United Nations, Apr 20 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has advocated Tuesday at the UN Security Council for concrete actions to put an end to Israel''s abuses against the people of Palestine.
At a debate on the Middle East situation including Palestine, Cuban representative Ana Silvia Rodriguez demanded an end to the Israeli occupation dating back to 1967, the blockade on the Gaza Strip, the colonization of the West Bank by establishing new settlements, land confiscation and other violations.
'Palestine is still suffering from illegal occupation and colonizing practices that violate international law and principles of the United Nations Charter,' Rodriguez said.
The Cuban permanent assistant representative described as unacceptable the colonization of the occupied territories, a practice that violates UN Resolution 2334, adopted by the Council last December.
'A solution of two States and a comprehensive, fair, peaceful and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue, will not be possible as Israel continues to violate the relevant resolutions adopted by the UN,' she insisted.
Rodriguez ratified the support of Cuba to the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to have a free, sovereign, and independent state, with its capital in East Jerusalem and the borders prior to the 1967 occupation.
The Cuban diplomat expressed Cuba's rejection to any action Israel has done, or is about to do, with the idea to modify the legal, physical, demographic or institutional structure of the Syrian Golan Heights that it is now occupying.
