Diabetes, HBP and Cancer Affect Economy in Trinidad Tobago
20 de marzo de 2017, 17:18Port of Spain, March 20 (Prensa Latina) Ministry of Health in Trinidad and Tobago said today that diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer cause a loss of $1.28 billion USD in the economy of the country.
The economic damage linked to those diseases represents 4.6 percent of the Gross Domestic Product in Trinidad and Tobago, according to data issued by Rohit Doon, adviser for Promotion of Health and Communication from the Ministry of Economy.
Doon said that more than half the total figure is related to diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer.
He said that the ministry of Health outlined a five-year strategy to prevent and control non-communicable diseases.
Doon said that it is necessary to improve the response of the health system to non-communicable diseases and the surveillance on risk factors to increase life quality in the population.
