Bolivia Summons Chilean Consul after Kidnapping of Nine Bolivians
20 de marzo de 2017, 12:12La Paz, Mar 20 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian government today convened the Chilean consul in La Paz, Manuel Hinojosa, after the kidnapping of nine Bolivian military and customs officers by the Chilean police who trespassed into national territory.
Through social networks, President Evo Morales described as an aggressive act the kidnapping of his fellow countrymen, who were participating in anti-smuggling fight.
'Smuggling is a crime, wherever you are and with whom you are you fight, you do not protect it. I ask Chile to fight the crime that causes us much harm,' wrote the Head of State in his @evoespueblo account.
The fact is registered on the eve of the presentation in The Hague of the Bolivian retort in the process against Chile to achieve an exit to the sea.
During a press conference this morning, the Minister of the Presidency, René Martínez, condemned the aggression of the gendarmerie of the neighboring country against Bolivian citizens and demanded its immediate release.
The incidents took place Sunday when two military and seven National Customs officers intersected in Bolivian territory three Chilean trucks loaded with smuggled products.
Two trucks fled, but the third was arrested with the aim of taking it to the nearest checkpoint, but at that time villagers and police officers crossed the border, arrested the Bolivians and drove them to the town of Colchane.
For the minister of the Presidency, this fact tries to tarnish the presentation of the allegations before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
