COPPAL Questions Almagro Position
16 de marzo de 2017, 16:32Santo Domingo, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) The Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL) questioned today the attitude of the OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro in relation with Venezuela.
COPPPAL president Manolo Pichardo stated Almagro has made an effort to show his position against the dialogue in Venezuela in an alleged effort to subtract legitimacy from his government.
Pichardo wondered why Almagro called for early elections in Venezuela with the purpose of removing a government that emerged from the popular will in democratic and transparent elections.
Instead, he said, the OAS secretary general has not taken a similar stance against Michel Temer's 'de facto' government in Brazil, which 'assaulted' the legitimate administration of Dilma Rousseff.
'Almagro's pronouncements and silences show that his agenda responds to the interests of those who have always had the OAS under their service as an instrument to justify and legitimize their interventionist policies in Latin America and the Caribbean for years,' stated Pichardo in a statement.
He considered 'the OAS fulfilled its historical cycle because, in a re-composition world, marked by a redefinition of economic, commercial, financial, political and diplomatic roles of the hegemonic and emerging countries, the old instruments that served the interests of that reality becomes obsolete.
