Four New Cases of Avian Flu in the Eastern Province of China
Beijing, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) Four new cases of the H7N9 avian flu strain in humans, including one deceased, were reported Monday in eastern China''s Jiangxi province.
According to the provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning, the new cases raise the number of infections in the province this year to 36 and deaths to 12.
Local authorities confirmed that monitoring of poultry markets was increased.
Official figures published by the Ministry of Health indicate that in January, when an outbreak of the virus was experienced, 88 individuals died due to the disease and another 271 received medical treatment for that reason.
H7N9 is a strain of bird flu that was first detected in humans in China in March 2013.
