Quito, Mar 7 (Prensa Latina) The second round of presidential elections in Ecuador has at stake the continuity of progressiveness in Latin anerica, considered doctor in History Juan Paz Miño.
'Imagine our country with bankers and business elites considered as the most reactionary in Latin America', said professor of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador interviewed by Prensa Latina.
In his opinion, next April 2 at the ballot boxes it is not only about the triumph of the Alianza Pais government ticket, but also what will follow in social benefits for this South American country.
In the regional level, taking into account that all eyes are upon the decision of the electorate, the officialist success would entail the possibility of maintaining democratic governments, the validity ansd continuity of the progressive cycle, he added.
He considered the triumph of the officialist party led by Lenin moreno in the first round, even if it did not achieve the necessary 40 percent, 'it was a triumph in adverse conditions'.
'Rightwing forces converged in trying to defeat the Citizen Revolution', he recalled.
In that regard, he emphasized the existence of a Latin American Rightwing International and imperialism that act behind stage to bury progressive, democratic and new left governments, as they succeeded doing in Argentina and Brazil.
He added the difficult conditions faced by this country in the last two years, due to the economic recession and some government actions that, in his opinion, were not well received by former defenders and followers.
As for Ecuadorian opposition, he ratified it is one of the most reactionary and regressive of Latin America, which is not ready to give up its privileges and worst still they 'oppose the State that redistributes wealth, direct taxes and the institutional guarantee of social and labor rights'.
In his opinion, the right became more dangerous and aggressive, as it does not want to give up power of the State and thus showed it in the campaign to push for a second round alleging 'fraud', strategy of old in this country by the same groups.
About voting, he said: 'the second round has to be understood as an opportunity to extend social legitimacy given by the first round' and warned that those who oppose the Citizen Revolution, whose continuity is in the hands of Moreno, they will not leave standing the legal methods nor the most rude instruments for the victory of former banker Lasso.
That victory would not only allow for the return of the neoliberal model of development, but also the possibility of taking vengeance of everything that has to do with 'correism' as they call it, he estimated.
The effort for a social conscience that prevents the return of the right, is an urgent and difficult task in only one month, those are hard-core that cannot be neglected by party strategists, he added.
'Let us immediate history marches on and expresses itself', he finally sentenced when questioned on the political, economic and social life of Ecuador, in the supposed case of a victory of the rightk, but with majority of Alianza PAIS in the National Assembly (74 of the 137 seats).
