La Paz, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) Pablo Iglesias, leader of the Spanish party Podemos, was decorated today by Bolivian parliamentarians with the Order of Democratic Merit Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz for his service to society and his contribution to European and world transformation.
President of the Chamber of Deputies Gabriela Montaño gave the award to Iglesias, leader of the left-wing party.
Iglesias, political science professor, traveled to Bolivia to attend the International Seminar for the centenary of the Russian Revolution.
During the ceremony held at the Parliament, parliamentarian Valeria Silva gave Iglesias a copy of the book 'Libro del Mar', which includes the arguments of Bolivia to present a claim against Chile at The Hague seeking to win a sovereign outlet to the Pacific Ocean.
Iglesias said that the solution to the old dispute would be an example of dialogue and coexistence between the two countries.
Iglesias was welcomed before the ceremony at the Government Palace by Bolivian President Evo Morales and Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera.
Podemos was created in 2014, during the well-known movement of 'indignados', and it is a party that has shaken the foundations of Spanish politics.
In his speech yesterday at the Central Bank of Bolivia, Iglesias said that the biggest challenge of the Spanish political system in the last 40 years is the crisis in Catalonia.
According to Iglesias, Spain is faced with a historical conflict, a confrontation between two factions: the Catalan separatists and monarchists supporting one nation.
In his opinion, Catalan separatists have an enormous capacity for social mobilization, but that is not enough to defeat the State.
As for the monarchists, he said they can win because they control the entire State, but do not have integration policies to settle the political conflict.
